About the role

Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive, even during challenging times? Join Extern’s Short Stay Break Service as a Key Worker, where you’ll play a vital role in helping young people (aged 8–17) reset, reconnect, and build brighter futures.

In this rewarding role, you’ll create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where young people can take a positive break from difficult situations. Through fun, meaningful activities - social, educational, cultural, and recreational - you’ll help them explore healthy choices, build confidence, and develop greater independence.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you’ll support young people during short stays of up to four days, giving families space to navigate challenges while helping prevent crises from escalating. Your work will support young people to return home with renewed confidence, stronger coping skills, and a more positive outlook.

Role:Keyworker

About the role

Extern MUST Hostel supports men and women facing homelessness, complex mental health, addiction, and criminal justice challenges. We provide a safe, caring environment where real change happens.

As a Key Worker, you’ll work directly with residents at medium to high risk of reoffending, managing risk while delivering intensive support. You’ll help people overcome addiction, mental and physical health issues, and learning difficulties, guiding them toward stability and independent living.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build trust and motivate positive change
  • Manage risk confidently
  • Deliver practical support, interventions, and advocacy
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to drive outcomes

About the role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Grants Assistant to join our team at Extern. Working under the guidance of the Contracts & Tender Manager, you will support the organisation in securing vital funding by completing grant applications to trusts and foundations.

You will manage funder details, track application deadlines, and ensure that, if successful, all Terms & Conditions of funding are met. Your role will involve drafting applications, coordinating with teams, and presenting strong, compelling bids to maximise funding opportunities.

Collaboration is key - you will work closely with staff to gather insights and knowledge, ensuring every application accurately reflects our work and impact. This is a hands-on role with a real impact on the organisation’s ability to grow and deliver services.

About the role

As a Low Threshold Drug and Alcohol Worker , you will deliver direct interventions, manage a fluid caseload, and provide holistic assessments and care planning across the Northern Trust area. Working from a harm reduction model, you will support service users with drug and alcohol issues, while also assisting with related challenges such as housing, finances, health, and family relationships.

The role requires independent decision-making, strong risk management, and collaboration with colleagues and management for guidance. You will also develop innovative ways to deliver services, liaise with statutory, voluntary, and community partners, and contribute to the ongoing quality of Extern’s Drug and Alcohol Programme.

This is a hands-on, frontline role where your work directly improves lives and supports individuals to make positive changes in their communities.
