Independent Visitors
Extern provides a range of programmes across the island of Ireland working with children and young people aged between 8 and 18. Our programmes range from early intervention and prevention, diversion through to working with children within the care system.
The Independent Visitors Project is funded by the Western Health and Social Care Trust and operational in the Trust area. The service is provided to young people who are within the care system and its aim is to “obtain the voice and input of young people involved to influence and shape the future planning for the service.”
The key service strands include befriending, identifying and linking the young person to social supports and community facilities. The aim is to build on children’s and families potential to develop to their full capacity within their communities and prepare for adulthood and independent living. Extern supports over 40 young people every year through this service.
