Addressing Homelessness
Drug Accommodation Support

When Extern started in 1978, its main purpose focused on addressing issues on homelessness. We continue to provide support to people who are affected by homelessness.

This multiagency pilot initiative operates within a ‘Harm Reduction’ ethos to support I.V drug users to stabilise by accessing temporary supported accommodation with a specialist worker liaising closely with hostel staff and statutory agencies to ensure a structured access to treatment and support. It is funded by Public Health Agency and overseen by a wide ranging steering group including NIHE, PSNI, Public Prosecution Service, Supporting People, Council for the Homeless and the voluntary hostel providers.
