Addressing Homelessness
Ormeau Centre

When Extern started in 1978, its main purpose focused on addressing issues on homelessness. We continue to provide support to people who are affected by homelessness.

The Ormeau Centre, located in Belfast city centre, provides temporary accommodation to people aged 18+ who are homeless. We work with people to address issues that have led to their homelessness ranging from affordability of accommodation through to therapeutic interventions for those with more complex needs. Residents are supported to access benefits, address health and wellbeing issues, access local community based services, identify training and employment opportunities and find permanent accommodation.

Funding for the project is through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Supporting People. Over 240 people access this service every year.

"The Ormeau Centre helped me when I was homeless and had nowhere else to go. Staff supported me to sort out my problems and have given me the strength to live independently again."
