Kinship Fostercare
Extern provides a range of programmes across the island of Ireland working with children and young people aged between 8 and 18. Our programmes range from early intervention and prevention, diversion through to working with children within the care system.
This project was established in September 2012 and is operational within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. Through the project Extern aims to reduce the risk of instability and potential breakdown of kinship placements by providing intensive and targeted support to both the foster child/children and their care-givers.
This project is funded by the Big Lottery/Realising Ambition.
"When our daughter couldn't cope anymore we worried we would lose contact with our grandson if he went into care. Extern has helped us to keep our family together whilst our daughter gets back on her feet again."
